The jewel of the Taillefer. You climb from the Poursollet lake up to the plateau des lacs — a Scottish landscape at 2,000 m, the Y-shaped Lac Fourchu, the Écrins on the horizon. A protected area, magical in June and in autumn alike.
TerrainA steep, stony climb after the meadow — poles recommended. The plateau is exposed to the wind.
Water & shadeNo shade at altitude. Swimming is prohibited (Natura 2000) — stay on the waymarked paths.
Good to knowFog can roll in suddenly on the plateau: IGN map 3336OT recommended. The access road is closed in winter.
Getting there
~40 min from the house. Head towards La Mure, then La Morte; at the entrance to La Morte, take the D114E signposted “Lac de Poursollet” and park at the lake. The car park fills up fast — set off early. The road is open from late spring to autumn.
