A panoramic tourist train, reopened in 2026 after restoration. A 50-minute commentated ride — five tunnels, three viaducts, views over the Drac dam and the Vercors — up to the Grand Balcon and its restaurant.

Domaine de Vizille

A 17th-century château, once a presidential residence, in a 100-hectare park with a deer reserve. It houses the Museum of the French Revolution — the only one in the world.

Prairie de la Rencontre

Laffrey~12 min

The meadow where Napoleon, returning from Elba in 1815, faced the royalist troops and won them over. An equestrian statue marks the spot, by the Laffrey lake.

Notre-Dame de la Salette

A 19th-century mountain sanctuary and basilica, a place of pilgrimage at nearly 1,800 m, with immense views. A full day out.

Good to know: many businesses on the plateau close on Mondays and Sunday afternoons, and some grocery shops also close between noon and 2 pm. A quick call before you go saves a wasted trip.
